EFIG spreads Christmas cheer amidst a cold Winter

EFIG celebrates Christmas

Cllr Tom Bromwich (EFIG - North Weald Bassett) and Cllr Lisa Morgan (EFIG - Grange Hill) dedicated three weeks in December to delivering Christmas cards to thousands of residents in their District wards. For many, this marked the first time they had received a festive card from their councillors, and local Conservatives were quick to try and replicate this gesture, though this did not mirror the success of EFIG's efforts.

Despite the challenging weather brought by Storm Darragh, with its relentless wind and rain, their determination remained undeterred. By 20th December, more than 5,000 cards had been delivered, sparking overwhelmingly positive responses from residents on social media, via email, and in person. Many expressed their appreciation for the effort, commenting that it made them feel like neighbours rather than mere voters.

Cllr Morgan leads Christmas festivities

In addition to this initiative, Cllr Morgan, in her capacity as Chair of Chigwell Parish Council, and Independent Parish Councillor Rochelle Hodds organised a Christmas Carol and Tree Lighting service at Brook Parade. The event featured a visit from Father Christmas, and nearly 50 residents joined in the festivities, which continued at Victory Hall with mulled wine, mince pies (courtesy of Lynne Moir from Limes Farm), and more carolling. Notably, several Conservative councillors joined in Cllr Morgan and the EFIG Parish Council's initiative - after all, the festive season is indeed a time to set aside politics and focus on community togetherness.

EFIG community officers get stuck in

EFIG’s commitment to community engagement extended beyond festive events. Cllr Bromwich attended the Royal British Legion’s Christmas Eve service in North Weald to honour fallen soldiers, while EFIG’s Chigwell team, including Sunny Sandhu and Shahzaad Malik, participated in Chigwell’s Menorah lighting, engaging with local residents and fostering community spirit.

Meanwhile, Cllr Morgan and Lynne Moir continued their vital work organising Chigwell’s Community Pantry, ensuring hundreds of vulnerable residents received nourishing food to brighten their Christmas celebrations.

Reflecting on a successful year, EFIG remains deeply grateful to its supporters and residents for their trust and encouragement. We are proud of the positive impact we have made in our communities and remain resolute in our mission to transform Epping Forest District’s political landscape.
